The benefits of dance for body and mind

Dancing does you good, and not only for morale. Here is what the body and the mind gain from it, at any age.

Dance works the whole body and calms the mind. It develops flexibility, coordination and stamina, while reducing stress and building self-confidence. It is a complete physical activity, open to any age.

A complete workout that does not look like one

You do not always think of it, but dancing is real physical effort. The whole body works: the legs, the back, the core, the breath.

Flexibility grows, coordination sharpens, stamina rises. All without the monotony of a gym.

The head as much as the legs

Dancing means holding sequences in mind, listening to the music, placing your body in space in real time. It is an exercise in memory and attention disguised as pleasure.

Many dancers find a kind of calm in it: while you dance, you think of nothing else.

The confidence that comes with dancing

Standing in front of others, filling the space, owning a movement: dance also works what cannot be seen. Shy children open up. Adults recover an ease they thought they had lost.

You do not leave a class the way you entered it.

Start, at any age

None of these benefits calls for particular talent, only consistency. In Nantes, the school L'Atelier du Mouvement offers classes for children and adults, in several styles.

The first step is the simplest: push open the door of a class.
